CPTJ/WIA Program Collaboration

In July 2006, Connecting People to Jobs established a collaborative effort with Family Service Center to co-enroll Hispanic participants into the Workforce Investment Act (WIA) Program to provide them with workforce development services. The Workforce Investment Act (WIA) focuses on meeting the needs of businesses for skilled workers and the training, education, and employment needs of individuals. Key components of the Act enable customers to easily access the information and services they need through the "OneStop" system; empower adults to obtain the training they find most appropriate through Individual Training Accounts (ITA), and ensure that all state and local programs meet customer expectations. Since its inception, this collaboration has yielded remarkable results:

448% Average annual increase in registrations of Hispanic individuals into the WIA Program at the Columbia OneStop Center

1,140% Average annual increase in the number of WIA Hispanic participants registered at the Columbia OneStop Center receiving training.

692% Average annual increase in the amount of WIA money invested in training for Hispanic individuals at the Columbia OneStop Center.

$255,745 Total amount invested for participants co-enrolled in the CPTJ/WIA Program

The Connectig People to Jobs/WIA Program Collaboration allows the participants to enhance their Occupational Skills by completing training from the Elegible Training Providers (ETP) List.

The Workforce Investment Act (WIA) of 1998 requires training providers to apply to a Local Workforce Development Board (Board) for certification as an eligible training provider to receive WIA funds. The Statewide List of Certified Training Providers includes all training programs that are currently certified by one or more Boards.
